Football-field sized island drifts across reservoir
PRINCE GEORGE – This summer, an island larger than a Canadian football field, complete with trees, floated across Williston Reservoir and then vanished from satellite view.
Bob Gammer, a spokesperson for B.C. Hydro, says no one can recall ever seeing anything like this on B.C.’s largest reservoir.
“So for the first time that anybody can ever remember, there is an island floating in Williston Reservoir,” Gammer said. “And it’s not just any old island. It’s 140 metres long, 70 metres wide, by our best estimate. And it’s full of trees. It’s got real tall trees growing on this island, floating around.”
