Blue Jays claim catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from Mets

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets on Saturday.

Ross was then optioned to triple-A Buffalo.

The 26-year-old made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this season, appearing in two contests at the MLB level before being claimed by the Mets.

In 70 games across the triple-A and double-A levels this season, Ross has a .184 batting average, 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 29 RBI, while throwing out 14 runners behind the plate.
