Kodiaks eye strong finish

“It’s always tough when we go on the road. Long travel, victory is always going to be challenging for us,” Bellamy said. “Young team. It was a good learning experience for a lot of the guys on the roster.”

The trip was the Kodiaks’ first long road trip, giving players an opportunity to learn how to handle the physical and mental demands that come with extended travel.

Now back home, the team turns its attention to Okanagan, an opponent the Kodiaks have already faced this season.

“We’re definitely just looking to build on that and really take it to get a good half in, be in a position to do some damage in the second half and see if we can hang around, have a chance to win a game,” Bellamy said.

For wide receiver Nicholas Ramirez, the focus is on improving in key areas after the team’s most recent loss.

“Offensively, we did good. We just couldn’t complete it in the red zone,” Ramirez said. “Defensively, we just couldn’t stop the run.”

The loss also put the Kodiaks outside playoff contention, according to Ramirez. Despite that, he said the team’s approach has not changed.

“We’re always looking for a win no matter what game it is, where we are in the season,” Ramirez said. “We’re just always trying to get through it and hope for a win every single time.”

Bellamy said the final three games are about more than the current season. With several young players in important positions, the coaching staff is focused on helping them develop and putting them in positions to contribute in the future.

“We’re just trying to be better week over week,” Bellamy said.

The Kodiaks may be looking toward next season, but Saturday’s game remains an opportunity to compete and continue building toward the future.
