PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings opened the 2026/27 season on strong footing, earning a 20-save 4-0 shutout victory against the Powell River Kings at Hap Parker Arena on Friday night (Sept. 18).

The Spruce Kings opened the scoreboard at 7:01 when Trent Gates earned a goal with an assist from Mason Loewen.

Just 1:20 later, the Spruce Kings earned their second goal as Ryan Wachtel deflected the puck off his stick and into an open net with an assist from Charlie Spencer and Anders Foyn Roen.

Loewen went to the net on the power play and redirected a pass from Noah Franzina to score the Spruce Kings’ third goal late in the first period, with a second assist from Cooper Faughnan.

In the second period, Ben Vreugdenhil won the faceoff and passed to Spencer, who snapped his first goal of the season just three seconds into a power play, securing the 4-0 shutout.

Green made 11 saves in the final frame to preserve his 5th BCHL Shutout, while playing in his 50th BCHL regular season game.

The Spruce Kings went 2/5 on power plays while the Powell River Kings went 0/5.

The two teams will play again Saturday night at Hap Parker Arena in Powell River.
