PRINCE GEORGE — In a twist on the sports cliche, they don’t ask how many, they ask how.

On Wednesday (Oct. 7), the City of Prince George says it recorded its highest number of votes cast during a singular day of advance voting. By one ballot, the city says the 1,176 votes cast on the first day of advance voting in 2026 broke the previous record set on the fourth day of advance voting in 2022.

The number recorded on Wednesday also surpassed the first day of advance voting in 2022, which saw 828 Prince George residents cast their ballots.

“The election workers are all doing a fantastic job so far and we are pleased with how things have started,” Ethan Anderson, the city’s chief election officer states. “We’ve also had a good number of people picking up mail in ballots too. We encourage people to come and vote early if you are able.

“As a reminder, voters must present two pieces of identification. One piece must establish the voter’s identity, while at least one piece must prove residency. At least one of the documents must also contain the voter’s signature.”

Throughout the first two days of advance voting in 2026, the city says 2,225 votes have been recorded. It’s greater than the 1,493 votes recorded during the first two days of advance voting in 2022.

The city says there are two more days for advance voting scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.

General voting day for the 2026 municipal election is Saturday, Oct. 17.
