Cougars claw back and earn point, fall to Broncos 3-2 in a shootout
PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Swift Current Broncos at home Sunday (Oct. 11).
The Cougars fell behind the eight ball after the first period, trailing 2-0, although it only took 10 seconds into the middle frame to get on the board. Aiden Foster pounced on a rebound to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Dermot Johnston, an 18-year-old defenceman who had played 52 games with the Cougars over the previous two seasons, scored his first career Western Hockey League (WHL) goal at a timely moment. Johnston scored on a wrist shot from the point to tie the game 2-2 in the third period.
The remainder of regulation and overtime wouldn’t decide a winner. Tre Peck scored in the second round of the shootout for the Cougars, but the Broncos would score on the next two opportunities to secure the 3-2 win.
