Dedicated gang enforcement team launched for Northern B.C.

PRINCE GEORGE — The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia has officially launched a dedicated North District Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, establishing a permanent gang enforcement presence in Northern B.C.

The new North District UGET will support communities throughout the region and work alongside local police agencies to target organized crime, gang activity and violence.

According to CFSEU-BC, its Lower Mainland-based Uniform Gang Enforcement Team has been deployed to Northern B.C. communities numerous times in recent years to assist local police.

Between 2020 and mid-2026, the team was deployed to Northern B.C. 39 times.

CFSEU-BC says the frequency of those deployments, along with what it describes as the continued need for specialized gang enforcement support, demonstrated the value of establishing a permanent team in the North.

“The launch of North District UGET allows us to maintain consistent pressure on organized crime and those involved in gang-related violence in Northern B.C.,” said Supt. Ryan Element, acting Chief Officer of CFSEU-BC.

“This team will work closely with our policing partners, complementing the important work already underway in communities across the North and providing additional resources where they are needed most.”

The North District team will support multiple communities rather than focusing on a single location.

CFSEU-BC says deployments will be based on intelligence, emerging threats and the needs of local policing partners.

The team will conduct proactive and high-visibility enforcement aimed at disrupting organized crime and gang activity, preventing violence and targeting individuals who pose a risk to public safety.

The creation of the northern team builds on CFSEU-BC’s wider integrated approach to combating organized crime and gang-related violence across the province.

“Organized crime is not confined by jurisdictional boundaries, and a coordinated approach is essential,” said Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, CFSEU-BC Media Relations Officer.

“Having a dedicated team in the North strengthens our ability to work alongside our policing partners, respond to emerging concerns and maintain a sustained enforcement presence in the communities we serve.”

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia describes itself as the province’s integrated anti-gang agency, bringing together policing partners in an effort to combat gangs and organized crime.

The launch means Northern B.C. will now have a dedicated Uniform Gang Enforcement Team rather than relying solely on deployments of the Lower Mainland-based unit when additional specialized gang enforcement resources are required.

CFSEU-BC did not specify in the release where in Northern B.C. the new team will be based or how many officers will make up the unit.
