QUESNEL — Quesnel RCMP have recovered a stolen pickup truck following a serious collision in downtown Quesnel on Sunday afternoon and are reminding residents not to take the law into their own hands when they encounter suspected stolen property.

The brown Ford F-250 was reported stolen from a property on Pentland Crescent during the early morning hours of Oct. 30.

According to police, the stolen vehicle was spotted near the Kersley General Store on Nov. 1 by a member of the public. The witness then allegedly followed the truck at high speeds into downtown Quesnel. Shortly before 3 p.m., the stolen vehicle was involved in a serious collision with a Ford Focus at the intersection of Kinchant Street and Carson Avenue.

RCMP say they have identified the person they believe was driving the stolen truck and are actively searching for the suspect, who fled the scene following the crash. Police noted the man is known to them.

“We are reminding the public of the dangers of taking the law into your own hands; thankfully, there were no serious injuries in this collision, but that doesn’t justify the actions of anyone involved,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, BC RCMP spokesperson for Northern B.C.

“As a member of the public, there is no way for you to know any previous police or criminal history of the person you are dealing with and the dangers you are exposing yourself or those around you to.”

Police seized the stolen truck and towed it to a secure location as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with police to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Quesnel RCMP non-emergency line at 250-992-9211.

RCMP also thanked witnesses who remained at the scene following the collision to assist victims and provide information to investigators.

The investigation remains ongoing.
