Miracle On Third: Elizabeth Fry Housing Society

Dec 3, 2018 | 1:50 PM

PRINCE GEORGE- Miracle on Third is happening this Thursday. It’s a chance for the community to come together and raise money for the Elizabeth Fry Society. The society provides a safe place for women to escape domestic violence, get back on their feet, and rent affordable housing. Next year, there will be even more space for families in need as a new housing project will get underway. Currently, the housing society has just under 130 units for people escaping violence, low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities. The new housing development will be located behind Studio 2880 and will be a mixture of all three phases of housing the society offers. There will be transitional housing for women and children escaping violence, second stage housing, and affordable townhomes. Along with providing a safe roof over their heads, the society also provides counselling and other resources for women and children. This project was announced back in 2016 and the province has recently recommitted funds to the project. The Elizabeth Fry Society says it hopes to start construction in the summer.

To help the Elizabeth Fry Society support families in our community, visit the drive-thru in the parking lot beside the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group building on Third Avenue between 7 am and 6 pm this Thursday. Cash donations are welcome but items are also needed including blankets and bedding, diapers and wipes, personal hygiene products, winter clothing, books and toys, Gift Cards, and food. All of the donations will stay in our community to support women and their children.
