PRINCE GEORGE – Saturday, December 1st marks the official kick-off to the 2019 Coldest Night of the Year event.

Association Advocating for Women and Community have decided to use the “Chilliest Cook-Off” on Saturday to get the information out and start fundraising. During the event, the community is invited to cook and taste their favourite chillies from 11:30-1:30 pm at the St. Giles Presbyterian Church.

“The purpose of the Chilliest Cook-Off is to announce the registration for the Coldest Night of the Year 2019 is officially open and individuals can register then. It also provides an opportunity for those who haven’t participated in the event before to come down and get information on what the event is about and why AWAC has hosted it and where the funds go that is raised,” says AWAC’s Executive Director, Connie Abe.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a 2, 5 or 10 km family-friendly walk that begins and ends at the St. Giles Presbyterian Church.

“The event is important because it reminds those of us who have not experienced homelessness and hardships what life is like in the cold winter months. The event helps raise funds for AWAC’s housing programs which help house individuals straight from the streets and provides start-up supplies such as bedding, towels, dishes, cleaning supplies etc,” adds Abe.

The Coldest Night of the Year will take place on February 23rd, with the walk starting at 5:15 pm.
