PRINCE GEORGE- A well-known member of the Prince George RCMP has retired today. Max the therapy dog is officially ending his career at 12 years old. He was the first therapy dog to be employed full time with the RCMP in Canada, the first dog to sit in a supreme court trial in BC, and the first dog to support a child victim in court in the province. Therapy dogs help children and adults through difficult situations such as court appearances, police interviews, and at crime scenes. The dogs also help officers de-stress after intense calls. His colleagues Henry and Yogi will take his place at the detachment. They are expected to visit with wildfire evacuees this week, as the therapy dogs helped to comfort those fleeing fires last summer.
