Wood Wheaton Cleans Up The City

PRINCE GEORGE – There are many locations around the city where loads of garbage have been dumped illegally. The Spruce City Wildlife Association, Random Acts of Kindness crew and Wood Wheaton have decided it was time to do something about it.

Our city is surrounded by beautiful forests and when people are out hiking or hunting coming across abandoned home appliances or couches isn’t something the locals want to see anymore. Sales Representative for Wood Wheaton, Mark Neudorf says it’s not only illegal but it can also be very dangerous.

“We actually took a bag full of probably 250-300 unused needles with drugs in the bag and stuff like that and it’s unfortunate because there are people actually living in our community going unnoticed down these trails and they need to know they have a better option.”

The Random Acts of Kindness started years ago in Regina at another dealership but caught on quickly when brought over to Prince George. The idea of the group is to go out and do things people wouldn’t do on a daily basis. Kindness isn’t just person to person it can be on the landscape too.

The Foothills Landfill waved the dumping fees for vehicles that registered for the event and Wood Wheaton managed to get about a dozen carloads to the dump filled with the garbage they found just kilometres outside the city.

“The hopes at the end of this is that we can bring some awareness to the people that are not only throwing out one wrapper or whether they’re dumping shingles from a roof they just did, that there’s better alternatives and there are people going around cleaning up your messes after you do it.”

Neudorf says anyone is invited to join SCWA, The Random Acts of Kindness and Wood Wheaton as they continue to do this twice a month until the snow rolls in.
