Civic Elections One Year Away
The municipal election is one year away. We asked Mayor Lyn Hall the question: Are you running again?
“Yeah, absolutely, I’m running again.”
But don’t expect the campaign signs to start popping up everywhere. There are rules around when campaigns can be launched officially.
“The nomination period, which is governed by provincial legislation, won’t start until September 4th of next year for the October 20th election,” explains Walter Babicz, the head of Legislative Services for the City.
He says those who are thinking of taking a stab at civic politics also need to be nominated by two individuals and the nomination papers are vetted.
This past term was the first four-year term for civic politicians in BC. New this coming election, locally, are the new sign regulations, restricting how many signs can be placed on civic properties.
