Mom Finds Needle At Children’s Playground
PRINCE GEORGE – Justina Belsham was playing with her two young children last Thursday at Duchess Park Playground when she spotted a needle in the grass.
“I was shocked, I had my ten-month-old in my hands when I found it,” says Belsham. She reported the needle and it was put into an empty water bottle until it could be properly disposed of.
“If you feel comfortable and you have equipment with you. You can pick up that needle, ideally with gloves and tongs, and place it in a hard plastic container with a screw on cap and tape it shut, so the needle is really contained, and then you can take that to a pharmacy that accepts needles,” says Dr.Andrew Gray, Northern Health Medical Health Officer.
Currently, the city has safe needle drop box locations but they are centralized in the downtown core, Belsham hopes they will add some to local parks.
