PRINCE GEORGE – The Rocky Mountain Rangers marched to city hall today to receive the Freedom of the City. It’s the highest award Council can bestow upon a citizen or organization. The Rangers are being recognized for their efforts in the 2017 Wildfires.

City council voted unanimously to award the Rangers the honour. Mayor Lynn Hall pointed out how rare it is for a city to bestow the award onto a group of people.

“Freedom of the City is not given out very often, we don’t have many over the years that have received it,” says Mayor Lyn Hall

The Rocky Mountain Rangers are a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces based at JR Vicars Armoury in Kamloops. The Rangers train and provide infantry soldiers to meet the operational requirements of the Canadian Armed Forces. Prince George was previously home to “A” Company of the Rocky Mountain Rangers, but the Company was relocated to Kamloops in 1970. In 2011, “B” Company was activated in Prince George due in large part to efforts from citizen volunteers in Prince George dedicated to bringing the Army back to Prince George following its 41-year absence.
