New Snow Disposal Facility Sought
PRINCE GEORGE – The City is currently looking at several locations for a new snow dump, replacing the one which is located along Foothills Boulevard between 15th and 18th Avenues.
“We were looking for is a snow disposal facility,” explains Gina Layte-Liston, Director of Public works. “So what that facility would do is provide a place where all that snow would come to and be treated before it enters into a watershed or that is not going into the ground. We know that we have issues with our road salts.”
The snow from the Bowl, west of the downtown, is brought to that local, while snow from the downtown and parking lots is brought to another facility on Guay Road, which involves hauling it uphill on the highway.
She says there are several options for both a location and nature of the facility. It could be a flat asphalt pad or a snow-melting facility, which is used in some European countries and Japan.
