Connect Day Growing Each Year

It is Connect Day and the Prince George Native Friendship Centre is hopping. It’s part of a number of events taking place this week, as part of Homelessness Action Week. Connect Day gives residents an opportunity to see what services are available for supports. They can also get a hair cut and a photo taken, and pick up a back pack loaded with essentials: winter outer wear, soap, shampoo, bus passes, etc. When the Community Partners Addressing Homelessness first started the Connect Day first started nearly a decade ago, CPAH out together 75 packs. Today, that number has grown to 250 packs.
“The actual number of homeless depends on how you define it. It’s probably staying the same,” says Kerry Pateman, Co-Chair of CPAH. “So, even though there’s numbers of people who have been housed and there is more housing in Prince George, we still see the same numbers accessing services and shelters in Prince George.”
The organization conducted a homeless count in 2016 and has federal funding to do so again next year.
