B.C. To Replace Standard 15-Day Driving Prohibitions
The province is about to replace standard 15-day driving prohibitions with new, dramatically longer penalties for drivers such as street racers, who commit the most dangerous infractions.
A news release from the government says the new penalties will take effect this Friday, December 1st, and they could also be applied to a broader range of offences, including excessive speeding or distracted driving.
Penalties will be determined using details of an incident provided by police — and the offender’s record will also be taken into account.
Solicitor General Mike Farnworth says drivers posing the biggest risk on the roads are often repeat offenders — and street racers who won’t take their cars to the track can expect to walk or use public transit.
