UNBC Naloxone Training A Success

PRINCE GEORGE- A group of students in the Lead UNBC program are hosting free naloxone training sessions this week. It’s an effort to educate students and combat the growing opioid crisis in the province. Naloxone is known as the antidote to an opioid overdose, it can reverse the symptoms in just five minutes. “We wanted to do something that would not only impact students, but our whole community,” said Lead UNBC student, Yara Nijm, “we wanted to help students feel that they’re not helpless, and we thought that providing the training to know what to do, even if they don’t end up using it would be very important.” Registration exceeded organizers expectations, with just under 100 people signed up as of this morning. 

Students don’t know if they’ll ever administer naloxone, but they say they’re happy they know how to.  “I can say now that maybe I’d be able to help someone in the future and that’s very important to me,” said participant, Logan Ramsay.

Sessions started this afternoon and will continue again tomorrow from 10 until 11 and from 2 until 3.  To find out how to get a free naloxone kit and how to use it visit Toward the Heart.
