Flood And Fire: How To Protect Yourself Over The Long Weekend

May 18, 2018 | 1:31 PM

PRINCE GEORGE- The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is asking residents to be cautious over the weekend as unseasonably warm temperatures cause problems for both flooding and fire risk. The District recommends those living near rivers and streams prepare emergency kits and make plans for animals and livestock as water levels are expected to rise on the Upper Fraser. It’s urging residents to be careful around river banks as fast-moving water can be dangerous.

As hot temperatures and a lack of precipitation are in the forecast, the District is asking campers to be extra cautious with campfires.  It recommends keeping fires within fire rings or pits, ensuring they are no larger than 0.5 metres by 0.5 meters and a safe distance away from grass and surrounding brush. Ensure your fire is completely extinguished before walking away.
