VANDERHOOF- A plume of smoke could be seen from Vanderhoof and surrounding area over the weekend, due to a forest fire northeast of the community near Breadalbane Creek. The blaze is currently estimated to be 243 hectares in size. 70 firefighters have been working to control the flames and have had help from Mother Nature. “They are making excellent progress due to the cooler weather yesterday and expect to make good progress as the weather remains cool today,” said BC Wildfire spokesperson, Marg Drysdale. Precipitation has also helped to slow down fire activity. “Crews are hoping to get a good handle on this fire before the weather starts to warm again next week,” added Drysdale. No structures are threatened by the fire.
