PRINCE GEORGE – Construction is underway this week on a new $8 million 24-bed inpatient unit at University Hospital. It will focus on helping patients get back home sooner after their hospital stay.

“Government is working with our partners to bring together health-care professionals to create a team-based approach to better meet the needs of people,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. “The new inpatient unit at UHNBC is supported by this strategy, helping patients get back home sooner after their hospital stay, cared for by physicians at the hospital.”

The second floor of UHNBC will be adding much-needed bed capacity, exercise and rehab, dining, along with common lounge areas for the new unit.

A rehabilitative care approach will be implemented to support patients and their families in order to maintain physical strength, mobility and the ability to perform daily living activities while receiving care in the hospital.
Northern Health says this is part of a larger plan for sustainable inpatient primary care in Prince George.
