Big Bike Sees Decline In Donations For Heart & Stroke Foundation

PRINCE GEORGE – A 29 seat bike hit Prince George’s streets today. Teams raise money and get their blood pumping for the annual Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike.

Although in its 25th year, fundraising in Northern BC has been exceptionally difficult this time around. According to Bonnie Mercedes from the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 25-30 Prince George teams typically ride and raise money every year. This year participation was down to a total of 17 committed teams over the three-day biking fundraiser in PG (June 15/21/22).

Mercedes believes the decline is in part due to the change in date for this year’s Relay For Life. Relay For Life was moved from May 13/14 to June 9/10, just one week before the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s big ride.

“It did impact our overall, we are happy for them, but there are only so many fundraising dollars available in communities,” says Bonnie Mercedes, Heart & Stroke Foundation.
