University Heights Moves To Phase Six

PRINCE GEORGE – With very little fanfare, Council set the wheel in motion for Phase Six of the massive University Heights project.

“Phase Six is designed for 52 lots, single-family subdivision,” explains Ashley Thandi with L & M Engineering, who is acting on behalf of T.R. Projects Ltd. “Most of those lots will back onto a greenbelt.”

It is the latest example of some faith in the Prince George housing market, as borne out by the latest building permits stats. In 2016, Year-To-Date figures show that 57 permits for single-family dwellings were issued, with a value $15,893,000. In 2017, 54 per permits were issued over the same period worth $20,410,000 were issued. Year-To-Date numbers this year have 71 permits issued, worth $39,017,000.

“This could be a record year for us,” says Mayor Lyn Hall.

But Thandi is all that surprised at those numbers, given what’s happening on the development landscape right now.

“I think Prince George is heading in a very positive direction. There is the need for different types of housing in our city and I think developers are recognizing that multi-family units, single-family units are kind of hot right now.”

Phase Six of University Heights is in the development stage at this point, although the land has been cleared for the work.
