PRINCE GEORGE – An evacuation alert for the 52 homes northwest of Vanderhoof has been cancelled.  The alert was put in place Wednesday by the Bulkley Nechako Regional District because of the threat from the Dog Creek Trail wildfire.

Wildfire officials gained the upper-hand on the 425-hectare fire during Friday’s rainfall.  The precipitation stopped the fire in its tracks and allowed wildfire officials to make substantial progress to guard the perimeter of the fire.

Resources have been reallocated to the fire to support suppression efforts. Crews are expected to continue to work along the flanks of the fire installing fire guards while checking for hot spots.  69 firefighters, 4 helicopters and 7 pieces of heavy equipment were dedicated to the fire Saturday however those numbers are expected to be reduced soon with the fire under control.

While flames are no longer visible, a good amount of smoke continues to be produced by the fire.
