Campfire Ban Takes Effect In Parts Of PG Fire Centre

Aug 7, 2018 | 5:21 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – Not surprisingly, campfire bans will be going into effect in four different forest districts in the Prince George Fire Centre this week. Those areas are: Prince George Forest District, the Vanderhoof Forest District, the Fort St. James Forest District and the Mackenzie Forest District. The ban will go into effect at noon on Thursday and will remain in effect until the public is otherwise notified. It does not apply to the Peace Forest District and the Fort Nelson Forest District.  Ministry officials say the weather and the number of fires currently burning in the region are factors that went into the decision. A larger map of the affected areas is viewable online

Prohibited activities include: campfires, Category 2 and 3 open fires; burning of any waste; stubble or grass burning of any size; the use of tiki torches and chimineas; the use of fireworks, including firecrackers; the use of sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description; the use of binary exploding targets and the use of air curtain burners.

Anyone found with an open fire prohibition could be issued a $1,150 ticket, pay an administrative penalty of $10,000 or fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail if convicted in court.
