Binche First Nation Votes For Independence

PRINCE GEORGE – The First Nation community of Binche has voted to gain independence from the Tl’azt’en First Nation. In a vote that concluded yesterday, Binche members voted 190 to 150 in favour of independence. According to Binche leaders, the federal government forced the First Nation amalgamate with the Stuart Trembleur Indian Band in 1959. The amalgamated First Nation became known as the Tl’azt’en First Nation. Binche leaders are expected to outline their next steps in the days ahead.
