PRINCE GEORGE – The 2019 edition of the Canada Winter Games is releasing the names of torchbearers as the games flame travels across the country this fall and winter, and the list includes seven locals.

As the last host of the Winter Games in 2015, Prince George will be a big stop on the relay on December 8th,  and the relay will be accompanied by a community celebration.  The Canada Games Torch Relay officially starts in Ottawa October 4, and visits almost 50 communities across Canada  before arriving in Red Deer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 Games on February 15th.

NDIT CEO Joel Mackay was nominated and chosen for the honours,  he says he’s honoured, “its just reliving what it felt like to be a part of the games here in Prince George that was such an incredible experience.”  Mackay was a volunteer in the Media Relations department when the city hosted the games.

CNC Communications Director Alyson Gourley-Cramer says her nod is a “culmination of all the things that she has done since working on the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.” Gourley-Cramer was the Manager of Communications and Community Relations of the 2015 games.
