PRINCE GEORGE – With Greyhound Lines cancelling bus services in Western Canada, the mayor of Lillooet is calling on the province to reinstate the BC Rail train that was closed in 2002. Mayor Marg Lampman’s proposed train line will run from North Vancouver to Prince George, with stops in Lillooet and other small communities.

Mayor Lampman says that “it would help to relieve the congestion on the Sea to Sky Highway from people living in Squamish. It would also be an all season transportation from Vancouver to Whistler.”

Erica Hummel, CEO of Tourism PG says that “now might be a good time to take another look, do a feasibility study… look at the markets, take a look at the visitor market, domestic market, see if it’s viable, it’s good timing.”

Mayor Lampman is planning on bringing her proposal to the Union of BC Municipalities conference in Whistler next week.
