Sisters In Spirit Vigil

PRINCE GEORGE – Today across the country, over one hundred Sisters in Spirit vigils will be held to honour murdered and missing Indigenous women. A vigil will be held here, in Prince George, at CNC with speeches from local activists and social workers, as well as Stephanie Jack, one of the vigil organizers who knew one of the Highway of Tears victims.

“What I really want is safety and security – a real sense of community to have this awareness brought forward and have everybody come forward as a group,” says Jack.

The Sisters in Spirit movement began in 2005 by the Native Women’s Association of Canada, in an effort to bring justice to women who have been abused or violated. Vigils like these give people opportunities to share their stories and show that there are people who are standing united to oppose violence against women.
