Opioid Crisis Not Slowing Down

PRINCE GEORGE- The opioid crisis in Canada is not slowing down. In fact, in Prince George, 30 people died from a drug overdose in the first nine months of this year. In all of 2017, 23 people died of illicit drug overdoses.  That trend is continuing across Canada. A documentary showing and Q&A with the director, Matthew Embry, is taking place this evening at UNBC’s Weldwood Theatre from 6 until 8 to discuss solutions to the crisis and challenge the stigma surrounding drug use. Northern Health echoes the message of the film saying the solution is a three-pronged approach: addressing and dealing with trauma, ending stigma, and decriminalization.

The documentary is called Painkiller: Inside the Opioid Crisis. It can also be viewed for free on YouTube.
