PRINCE GEORGE – Effect immediately until the end of Sunday, December 16th, Avalanche Canada is warning recreational backcountry users most of the mountainous regions in BC are at a risk of avalanches.

According to Avalanche Canada, the combination of a drought in late November and early December and the recent series of snowstorms that have dropped a large amount of snow can put backcountry enthusiasts at risk.

The new snow is not bonding well to the old surface of the snow. There is a risk an avalanche can be triggered on those unstable snow layers making it life threating for those accessing higher elevation terrain. Persons in a backcountry need the essential rescue gear and know how to use it. And check the current avalanche conditions at www.avalance.ca
