PRINCE GEORGE — Police nabbed 11 impaired drivers in Prince George this past weekend as part of the RCMP’s annual winter impaired driving enforcement campaign.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says on Friday and Saturday night police conducted a series of check stops and roving patrols throughout the city.

He says nine of those 11 drivers were issued 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions (IRP’s) and had their vehicles impounded (for having a blood alcohol content of over 100 mg%). He says the other two impaired drivers were issued three-day IRP’s and had their vehicles impounded for seven days (between 60-90 mg%).

Other results included:

  • Seven speeding violations
  • Eight intersection-related violations
  • Two distracted driving (cell phone) violations
  • Four suspension/prohibition charges
  • Four drivers served suspension/prohibition orders on behalf of ICBC
  • Three vehicles sent for inspection due to improper/inadequate equipment
  • 19 other violations

“Officers use a variety of tools to help them detect and apprehend impaired drivers, including approved screening devices, physical coordination testing, and a drug recognition expert,” says Douglass, who adds, “there are no excuses for driving while impaired.”
