Curling championships a boon to the economy

PRINCE GEORGE – Sporting events, especially of the international kind, bring a wealth of benefits to hosting communities.

Curlers from 13 countries will be coming to Prince George for the World Women’s Curling Championships will be in Prince George next March and, according to the STEAM formula used by sports tourism organizations, each athlete will spend between $175 and $200 dollars per day. 

But Glen Mikkelson, Co-Chair with the Host Committee, says there is something even bigger with events like this one.

“NBC has come up and covered the competitions so down in the United States, we’re going to get that exposure. Plus Japan, China are expected to have broadcasting teams here.”
