PRINCE GEORGE – The Canadian government announced the legalization of marijuana for non-medical use back in October of 2018.

The significant changes to the legal status of marijuana has raised challenges for Canadian employers and employees. Our newsroom talked to a local resident who says they were recently terminated because they tested positive for medical cannabis.

The longtime resident of Prince George was let go from her job of 11 years early this week.  She prefers not to be identified as she is afraid of the stigma associated with smoking medical cannabis will make it difficult to find a new job.

Labour lawyer Bobby Deepak says when it comes to medical use of cannabis employers should have a good understanding of the human rights legislation.
