How important are the Fraser Institute’s elementary school rankings?

PRINCE GEORGE — 31 Prince George schools were listed in this year’s Fraser Institute BC Elementary School rankings without any cracking the top 100, and no public school in the top 200.

The top schools are most often private or have stronger socio-economic conditions, something the rankings catch heat for. School District 57 Chair Tim Bennett encourages parents who see the Fraser Institute’s rankings to research things like a school’s graduation rates and reading levels for a more balanced assessment.

Comfortability can go a long way for how well elementary-level students perform in the classroom but that’s not always easy to achieve without proper resources. Recruitment and retention of teachers, specifically, has been a hot topic of late for the district.

For the Fraser Institute, final rankings are not as important as the trend. Glenview is the only Prince George school listed as trending up.
