Canada Post deadline creeping up

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s that time of year once again when the busy folks at Canada Post are dealing with parcels coming in and heading out. But the COVID years have given them lots of practice.

“It can be really busy at any time,” says Rick Harris, President of CUPW, Local 182. “Like in the last couple of years, we were really busy because of the people staying at home and shopping online. And then last Christmas was not as busy. It was kind of a surprise to some of us. It really died off that week before Christmas. There was hardly any work at all. And so we were all kind of wondering about that. But not to fear, because this year we’re back in business.”

But another habit was borne out of COVID. Shopping online and shipping to the destination of choice is not a trend CUPW is seeing more frequently.

“That’s not what we’re seeing out at the plant. I mean, we’re seeing lots of boxes covered in tape and like we’re, we’re walls are packed, like we’re packed to the brim.”
