PRINCE GEORGE- The City of Prince George is getting bigger, and some residents are feeling the growing pains. Workers in the downtown are concerned about their parking options while new developments are built. The Queensway lot will be redeveloped this year for the new downtown housing development. Those who buy monthly parking have been told to move to a different lot by the spring. “We are uneasy, and now with the two lots closing, it’s adding to the anxiety,” said Rovin Sarran. Workers are concerned the Days Inn lot may also close once the Four Seasons pool is redeveloped. Sarran added some of his coworkers are worried they will have to move to lots that are farther away, and that safety is a concern for some.

But the City says it’s temporary. The new condo development will more than double the existing lot on Queensway, with about 160 city parking spaces available. “We still have over 200 parking stalls in our parking facilities,” said bylaw manager, Fred Crittenden, “yes, in certain pockets it’s not as good as others, people may have to walk a little further but it’s all still within a reasonable walking distance.”
