Quesnel School Move Delayed

QUESNEL – The Quesnel School District has changed its plans for the move of Quesnel Junior Secondary School students into Maple Park school. The latter was being renovated to accommodate hundreds of students while a new school is being built. That was to happen over the Spring Break. But with any kind of renovation, there were some surprises.

“We weren’t surprised that they’re going to do the move in the Fall,” says Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson. “We think it’s a better project, it gives the opportunity to make sure the school is ready to host those kids for three to five years.”

However, there is some good news to come from the Province on that project.

“But they also got the announcement from the Minister’s office that they’re now entering into the next planning stage, which is usually the signal that the government intends to give them the money to build a new school. So we’re really pleased that we got the announcement that they’re going to move into the business case planning,”  says Simpson.
