Tampon Tuesday: Bringing The Essentials To Women In Need
PRINCE GEORGE- How do you make the decision between eating dinner or buying a box of tampons? That’s what inspired Health Sciences Association member, Carol Bourque, to bring Tampon Tuesday to Prince George. She heard of the campaign that’s popular in the Lower Mainland and realized the need for feminine hygiene products is the same in Prince George. “I thought that’s an amazing idea, and why can’t we do something like that in Prince George,” said Bourque, “it’s really heartbreaking, you don’t realize what you would have to do if you had to choose between eating and buying menstrual products.” The Tampon Tuesday campaign asks the public to donate menstrual products while trying to end the stigma surrounding periods by encouraging families to ask for help.
Bourque partnered with the St Vincent de Paul food bank to collect donations. “It’s a big need for a lot of women,” said acting coordinator, Elaine Doucet,”the ladies are very embarrassed to ask for anything personal. We’re here to help them.” Hygiene products can be dropped off until the 20th as part of the campaign, but donations are always needed year round.
