Girls Empowerment Conference A Success
PRINCE GEORGE- More than 100 girls between the ages of 10 and 14 are participating in the first We are Fierce Girls Empowerment Conference this week. Carrier Sekani Family Services is hosting the event, which has brought girls in from across the region. Participants are being taught about self-confidence, leadership, and conflict resolution through a number of workshops and speakers. The conference also connects participants to their aboriginal culture. “We all know that if you know who you are and where you come from you’re less likely to engage in high-risk activities,” said Executive Director, Mary Teegee,”this age, it’s a time where they’re really finding out who they are as young women and part of who they are is their identity and their culture.” The three-day event wraps up tomorrow.
