Wary Owner Worries About Off-Leash Dogs

PRINCE GEORGE – A local dog owner is worried when her nervous, on-leash dog is approached by off-leash pets.

For Molly Murray, what should be a relaxing walk with her dog Odie is plagued by worry. Odie is a nervous pup so Murray sticks to on-leash areas when they go for walks, but even on these trails, she says many dogs she encounters are not on a leash.

“I’m mostly scared that a big dog is going to run up to him off leash, the owner you know he may think their dog is friendly, but with Odie not being friendly, the big dog runs up, he snaps, and I’m so scared one time he’s going to snap and it’s going to trigger something in the bigger dog,” says Molly Murray, dog owner.

She likes the idea of the Yellow Dog Project as a way owners can warn others that they have a dog needing space by tying something yellow to their leash. However, Murray feels the project only works if all dogs are on leash in on-leash areas.
