Mock Evacuation In PG

PRINCE GEORGE – Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers knocked on doors Saturday afternoon as part of their mock evacuation.

Teams spread throughout the neighbourhood, with permission from residents, pretending to be under-evacuation. They encountered a variety of scenarios set to test out possible roadblocks when attempting to evacuate.

“When our volunteers go door-to-door in groups of two or three they are going to be faced with all sorts of different types of scenarios. We will have people with mobility issues, people with dementia, people with children and they are refusing to leave, and our volunteers will have to figure out how to deal with that,” Lauren Phillips, Team Leader with Prince George Search and Rescue

SAR members used an app to connect to one another and identify which houses had been evacuated and which had people declining to leave. Approximately 45 SAR volunteers participated in the mock evacuations.
