PRINCE GEORGE- The Canadian Mental Health Association hosted an open house today as part of Mental Health Week. The event connected community members with resources and educated the public about the services it offers. Staff say it’s important to continue conversations about mental wellness year round, as it helps to get rid of the stigma. Education and Projects manager, Mary Lu Spagrud, says people often suffer in silence as they are embarrassed to ask for help. “It’s really important that we begin to talk more openly and honestly about mental health and we recognize that mental health isn’t about being sick or being ill, it’s that ability to cope and bounce back,” she adds, “mental health is simply part of who we are it’s not something we should be ashamed of.”
