PRINCE GEORGE – A successful video game developer has come out of our community. The co-founder of Vancouver gaming company East Side Games came for a visit to his Alma mater last week.

Josh Nilson grew up in Willow River. The small community located northeast of Prince George has just under 150 residents. Today, Nilson has almost the same amount of people working at his company.

“We started East Side Games in 2011, we started with 14 people and now we are at 102 people, and I have no idea how that happened,” says Josh Nilson, East Side Games co-founder.

The world of video game development is changing, and Nilson suggests today’s developers may not have to move to major cities to be successful. “A few years ago it was impossible, but now there are so many successful shops that are remote workers,” says Josh Nilson, co-founder East Side Games.

The company’s latest success comes out of an app based on a popular television series you may have heard of… Trailer Park Boys. When they pushed out the game “Trailer Park Boys, Grea$y Money”, it was not only the number one game in Canada for that day, but the number one app.

Nilson’s story shows that wherever you come from, if you work hard enough it’ll never be game over.
