PRINCE GEORGE – As a kitten, little Jinx had a rough start to life. A few months ago she was found caught in a wood fence on a cold Prince George December day. The feline couldn’t be freed, so a Good Samaritan cut parts of the fence to come along with her to the vet. After treatment, she was taken to the PG Humane Society, where things got worse.

“So we took her back up to the vet, and they told us that her foot started to rot, because of the injury to the foot we couldn’t see the skin underneath, so what they did, they told us that it would have to be amputated,” says Lizanne Vankoughnett, owner.

Seven months and 23 staples later, Jinx is a whole new cat. She has been adopted by Vankoughnett, and her daughter Nevaeh Ross.

Jinx is one of three nominees in her category at the PG Humane Society’s Tuxes For Tails event this weekend. It’s the second year of the gala, which honours animals and humans alike, while also raising money for the non-profit.

“We wanted to recognize people in the community that have made a difference to animal welfare, and we also wanted to recognize the animals that have come into our care, that have contributed to changing our lives,” says Angela McLaren, PG Humane Society.

Jinx is nominated for ‘Rescue Animal Hero of the Year’. Vankoughnett hopes Jinx’s story will inspire people never to give up on a furry friend in need.
