Seniors Lunch A Big Success
PRINCE GEORGE – What do flautists, hamburgers, hot dogs and Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park have in common? Normally, not a lot. But once a year all of those elements converge on the park for the Seniors Lunch and Garden Tour, put on by the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society.
“I like the idea that the girls, they set things up so well,” says long-time garden lunch attendee, Beth. “They’re so kind to us and appreciate us. We also have young people who are volunteering. I think that’s terrific.”
“It began over a dozen year ago, nobody’s exactly sure when,” says Linda Naess, President of the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society. “Members of the Society wanted to so something for seniors in the community, so they hosted seniors lunches in their backyards.”
But the event got too big and was moved to the park. The day targets seniors living in four assisted-living facilities in the city and it has become a highlight.
