PRINCE GEORGE – The BC Wildfire Service is reporting three wildfires of note in the Prince George Fire Centre.

“The first one is the Chutanli Lake fire and that one is about 75 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof. It’s currently 800 hectares. we do have Wildfire Service firefighters on scene and they are being assisted by industry,” explains Forrest Tower, Fire Information Officer for the Prince George Fire Centre. “The second fire we have is two kilometres east of Valemount.  It’s the McKurdy Mountain fire. It’s burning upslope away from the Village of Valemount. The last one is sort of an emerging incident. The Purvess Lake wildfire. It’s around 350 hectares. Industry is actioning it at this time.”

Prince George is the only region in BC not under any burning restrictions.

“Going into the long weekend, we really encourage people to be safe with their campfires,” says Tower. “Just because it is a low to moderate danger rating, it doesn’t mean that there’s no risk.”
