Pidherny Access Road Raises Safety Concerns

PRINCE GEORGE – The Pidherny Recreation Site has become one of the more popular mountain bike recreation sites within city limits. The 620-hectare area is located about 12km to the northwest of downtown and is used by mountain bikers, walkers, runners and skiers.  There are two prominent access points to the recreation site, one located near the top of Foothills Boulevard and the other at Pidherny road located off North Nechako Road.  Some nearby residents worry the Pidherny road access is too narrow for the number of people wanting to use the site, in turn creating a safety concern. According to resident Tracy Darbyshire, some users of the recreation site park their vehicles on the sides of the narrow road, closing off access to the park for emergency vehicles. Residents who live near Pidherny Road would like those involved with the recreation site to find a solution to the problematic area.
