CACHE CREEK — One person is in critical but non-life-threatening condition after a school bus crash near Cache Creek.

Cpl. Mike Halskov with BC RCMP Traffic Services says 10 kids and two adults were on board and says the crash occurred near Church Road and Antoine Road north of Cache Creek on Highway 97.

He says the bus went into a ditch just after noon and notes at least one bus occupant was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A helicopter was called for one patient with an eye injury.

District manager for Fraser-Cariboo for BC Emergency Health Services, Norene Parke, responded to the scene.

“On scene, we found 12 patients and we had our helicopter arrive and take one serious patient with non-life-threatening injuries and one stable patient, as well we had three ground ambulances take six more patients so in total we transported eight in total,” she says. “I’m unable to comment on the types of injuries, but I can assure you our paramedics provided high-quality patient care and all patients were well looked after.”

The College Heights girls volleyball team was headed to Powell River to compete in the BC High School Volleyball Championships.

Prince George School District Superintendent Marilyn Marquis Forster says the school district is working on contacting the students’ parents but notes parents can also call College Heights Secondary at 250-964-4431 for more information.
